Balancing modern design with a rural setting

A retiring farmer in North Wales wanted a four-bedroom detached property, complete with a double garage. It needed to be modern in design, yet use traditional agricultural materials like zinc, slate, stone and render, as well as stay in keeping with the scenic Clwydian Range setting.

As the site of this contemporary project borders a small village, we needed to be in constant dialogue with planners. Limited road access presented some obstacles from a building and logistics perspective, and the rocky terrain meant enlisting the help of structural engineers to ensure full safety.

Once we had established a suitable method, we were able to deliver a solution that was both cost-effective and put safety first.

Our experience allowed us to negotiate a design that matched the client’s expectations and satisfied local planners, while our focus on efficiency and minimised waste helped overcome the challenge of limited access.
